I'VE HAD A GOOD, if hot summer. I'd say that's been the norm for most of us. I painted in the studio, did a hot but fun week at the Chincoteague Plein-Air Paintout, and gardened when it was (finally) cool enough.
And no, the summer didn't drive me to drink, but one lovely thing that happened was that Erin Lusk and her husband Thomas bought three of my paintings to make into labels for wine they imported and rebottled.
In their vineyard, Vessel Winery, they also make their own wine, with labels from fabulous pencil drawings by Thomas's father, Mike.
All of this may be seen, along with paintings by me, and, on Saturdays, a produce and artisans market, at the Pearl Market, very close to the north end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.
In addition to selling bottles of wine, they'll be selling it by the glass. Oysters and a cheese board complete the offerings. The Pearl Market will be open Fridays-Sundays for the time being.
UPCOMING
It's not too early to start planning your time at the Eastern Shore Artisans Guild Studio Tour. This event is one of the biggest and most fun on the Shore. It's a self-guided tour that takes place the two days after Thanksgiving. There are about 50 artists on the tour, many in their own studios (here at 18 Bayview Ave., in Wachapreague, Dave Groshong and I will be here to greet you, and show you our paintings and garden fish), and some in collective spots, like Kerr Place in Onancock and the Pearl Market, in Cape Charles.
Closer to now, the Virginia Eastern Shore Land Trust has opened properties to a number of painters for the Paint the Shore event. We will paint for the next month or so, and then, on Nov. 12, our plein-air pieces will be put up for sale, with commissions benefiting the Land Trust. The show will be held at Kerr Place in Onancock, from 6-8 p.m.

Come to the studio here at 18 Bayview Ave. in Wachapreague and learn to paint with a palette knife.
Two-day workshops are $375, one-day workshops are $200. Both workshops include most materials. For more information, please click here.
