Two-Day Workshops

Come to Wachapreague and experience the pleasure and possibilities of palette-knife painting. Over the course of two days, with me as your guide, you will take solid steps in your journey of mastery and self-expression through painting.

Here's a bit of what to expect:

On Saturday, after we get to know each other a little, I'll show you the basics:

    - How to hold the knife

    - How to pick up the paint

    - How to put paint on your surface

Then I'll show you the strokes I use, and we'll practice until you feel comfortable.

In the afternoon, working from a photograph, we will use the strokes we practiced in the morning to begin a painting.

At the end of the day, we'll take the measure of where we are, discuss strengths and weaknesses of all the paintings and contemplate how to continue them on Sunday.

On Sunday, we will review what we learned on Saturday, and we will talk about how to approach a painting, how to understand what you're seeing and translate that into a painting.

We'll talk about learning to see the world through painters' eyes, why that matters, and how you can deepening your views of the world will enrich your painting. Then, with my help, you'll finish the paintings you started on Saturday. If some of you are very quick, you might even be able to start a second painting!

Minimum of three students, maximum of six.

     Cost $325

Most materials are provided, including knives, paint and canvases. You will bring your own lunch, drinks and snacks.

There are numerous lodgings available on the Shore and in Wachapreague. If a number of you want to stay in town, I might be able to arrange a good price at an Air B&B-type home owned by a friend.

One-Day Workshops

The material we cover in the one-day workshops will be the same largely the same as the two-day workshops, but the pace will be quicker.

We will spend less time talking about how to see, and how to develop your eye and your focus. We will paint a less complex piece, and though you might not finish it, you will have a good idea of where you're going with it!

The one-day workshops will run from 10 to about 5. I will provide most of the materials.

Minimum of three participants, maximum of six.

    Cost is $150.
